Parent Internet Safety Awareness

posted Jan 26, 2017, 5:40 PM by Monticello Montessori

Dear Parents,
At this time of year we learn about staying safe while using the internet.  Your child's classroom will be discussing internet safety and will talk about safe ways to use the internet and unsafe practices to avoid.  As part of that learning, we would also like parents to be informed.  Below is a link to a quiz about parent internet safety.  We invite you to take the quiz and then consider if there is anything you can do to reduce risks to internet safety in your home.  At Monticello we do have internet content controls in place, our students and parents sign an electronic equipment use agreement, and our access is compliant with Child Internet Protection Act requirements for schools and libraries.  Please do take a few minutes to talk about staying safe with your child while using the internet. We hope that this is helpful to you and your family.

This page has internet safety tips for parents:

Here is the parent internet safety quiz link.  You can copy and paste the address into a new browser page if it is not clickable for you:

Kind Regards,
Ms. Kemery

1 hour Delayed Start

posted Jan 9, 2017, 6:37 AM by Monticello Montessori

Due to road conditions, school will start one hour late today.  Buses will also run 1 hour late. Expect your child's bus 1 hour later than usual at your stop.  Please be prepared to wait a few minutes as well, as buses will be traveling slowly due to icy conditions.  School will have Monday early release as usual.

Emergency Closure

School Closure Information

Student safety is our first concern at Monticello.   Occasionally, winter weather in S.E. Idaho can have predicted temperatures below zero degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill that can increase the risk of exposure.  Children should always dress to be prepared for the weather, but from time to time, cold temperatures or other severe weather makes it necessary to close school.  School may also close due to mechanical failures, or for other emergencies.

Late Start:  Late start notices will be posted by 6:30 am.  In case of late start, buses will arrive and depart at stops according to the length of the delayed start. Late start days will usually conduct recesses, lunch schedules and dismissal as usual.

Emergency Early Release:  In the case of emergency early release, bus riding students will board the bus only after a parent/guardian has been contacted and has confirmed that someone will be home or that the student can gain access to their house.  All other students will remain at the school with staff and will be released at the close of school or to their parent/guardian.

Absences:  Parents always have the right to decide what is best for their children.  If they believe the weather is too severe for them to attend school, upon their return the student(s) should bring a note from the parent/guardian excusing the absence.

School Cancelled for the Day:  In the event that school is cancelled for the day, no students will be in attendance, and all scheduled extra-curricular activities will be cancelled.

School Closure Announcements:  When school must be closed, Monticello will make every effort to contact parents.  The school will use radio, television, text messages, email, Facebook, and school website notices to inform parents of school closure.
